Joel Meyers has been broadcasting Los Angeles Lakers NBA games since 2003, beginning as the team’s radio play-by-play voice. In 2005, he moved to calling Lakers TV games, where he is now in his fifth season. Meyers came to the Lakers following four seasons (1998-2002) calling San Antonio Spurs TV games.
Meyers’ current home with the Lakers is actually his second partnership with team owner Dr. Jerry Buss. From the inception of Dr. Buss’ ownership of the Prime Ticket cable network (now FSN West and FSN West 2), Joel broadcast college baseball and indoor soccer.
In 1980, the St. Louis native began calling UCLA basketball and football games on KMPC radio. With ESPN for more than a decade, he broadcast college football, college basketball and professional golf. He also worked for NBC covering the NFL and two Olympic Games.
Joel was behind the mike for California Angels telecasts 1987-89, L.A. Dodgers telecasts 1990-92, Big 12 Conference football for Fox Sports Net, and NBA games for ESPN radio. Also, Lazers MIS games on TV, the 2007 FIBA Americas gold and bronze medal games with Snapper Jones, and numerous other broadcast assignments.
In addition to his current duties with the Lakers, Meyers has worked Sundays for CBS/Westwood On for the past nine years, and will continue to call NFL action, as well as Big 12 football on FSN on Saturday nights.
