Alan Malamud Memorial Award

When Los Angeles Times Sportswriter and Hall of Fame Inductee Alan Malamud passed away several years ago, many of his friends, led by Hall of Fame sportswriter Mitch Chortkoff, established the Alan Malamud Memorial Award in 1997. The Southern California Jewish Sports Hall of Fame administrates the award through a scholarship presented periodically to a high school or university student planning a career in print or broadcast journalism.

Alan Malamud also wrote for the Los Angeles Herald-Examiner for 25 years, before joining the L.A. Times in 1989.  His daily "Notes On A Scorecard" column was a favorite of Southern California sports page readers.  Malamud was born and raised in L.A., and was a graduate of Los Angeles High School, and  USC.
